About Membership

As a member of ASTA you are part of the association recognized as the leading voice of the U.S. spice industry

As a member of ASTA you will be part of the association recognized as the voice of the U.S. spice industry in the global market.

ASTA seeks to continually enhance the value of membership, looking at a wide range of benefits to meet the needs of people throughout every member company, including those in senior management, purchasing/procurement, QA, technical and regulatory compliance, sales and marketing.  Your ASTA Membership provides great networking opportunities, educational programs, trade resources and information on food safety and regulatory issues.  Members realize significant savings on ASTA products and services, access to programs and information not available to non-members.

Food Safety continues to be a key area of focus with a range or resources including the Clean, Safe Spices Guidance and Guidance on the Prevention and Detection of Adulteration and an Allergen Guidance Document.  The Food Safety Committee conducts an annual review of current issues and develops programs and resources to ensure members have the latest information to tackle tough issues in today’s spice industry.

Government Relations and Advocacy are essential for any trade association in today’s environment and ASTA works to ensure our voice is heard with regulators.  ASTA provides a wide range of resources to help companies understand their obligations and how to comply with complex regulations such as the Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA).  ASTA has developed a FSMA Decision Tree available to members at no cost to help companies determine which FSMA rules they must comply with.  Guidance on risk assessments was also published.

Education forms the backbone of ASTA programs, delivered in person and on-line.  The ASTA Annual Meeting has grown tremendously in the past five years to over 430 people attending.  It is THE place to be for education and networking and ASTA member companies receive a $1,000 discount off the registration fee for each person that attends the Annual Meeting.  ASTA members also receive discounted registration fees for the October Regulatory Workshop and a wide range of live and on-demand webinars on key industry topics.

ASTA members have access to a wide range of Trade resources, including the Arbitration Program, ASTA Contracts and the Self-Regulation Program.  In addition, ASTA members can utilize the Career Center, apply for $1,000 scholarships in the Susan B. Abbott Scholarship fund, access the on-line membership directory, and receive ASTA publications and communications.
